Finan Hearing Room

Originally designed to serve as the Law Library of the Ohio Supreme Court, the Richard H. Finan Hearing Room today is used as a meeting space by the Senate Finance Committee. The room is named after former Senate President Richard Finan, the senior legislator who shepherded the 1990s restoration of the Capitol Square.

Before the restoration project began, this space had been divided into two floors, the second starting at the mezzanine level. The second floor was used as attic space and filled with ventilation pipes, old boxes and other odds and ends that needed to be stored. The lower level was subdivided into a number of offices used by the Ohio Senate.

Today, the Finan Hearing Room has been restored to its original size. Paint colors and patterns have been recreated to match the originals and light fixtures have been restored to working order.
