The State of Ohio is known as the “Cradle of Presidents.” With eight men elected to the American Presidency, Ohio claims the most presidents. Join the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) for a family-friendly celebration of all dads, including the fathers of the United States who have called Ohio home. The event will take place Sunday, June 18, 2017 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Ohio Statehouse. The event is free and open to the public.
CSRAB has partnered with the presidential sites that call Ohio home. The schedule of events is as follows:

• 12, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Free tours of the Ohio Statehouse begin at the top of the hour in the Map Room


• 12 to 3 p.m. Selfie photo booth in the Rotunda


• James A. Garfield National Park Site: information table


• Harding Home Presidential Site: activity/information table


• Harrison/Symmes Memorial Foundation: activity/information table, Mrs. Harrison historic interpreter


• Hayes Presidential Library and Museum: activity/information table


• McKinley Presidential Library and Museum: activity/information table


• Ulysses S. Grant Homestead Association: activity/information table

• 12:30 and 2 p.m. Special Ohio POTUS tour featuring the presidential hearing rooms and governor’s ceremonial Ohio Statehouse office; these spaces are not typically open to the public for tours

For the seventh consecutive year, the West Lawn (High Street) of the Ohio Statehouse will host vintage “base ball” (historically two words), as members of the 132^nd Ohio General Assembly (OGA) take on the Ohio Village Muffins Thursday, June 8, 2017. Reminiscent of barnstorming tours of yesteryear, the “titanic struggle” begins at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The two teams will be fighting for bragging rights and the all-important symbol of victory, the Richard Schuricht Memorial Cup. Prior to the game, the Statehouse’s 1st Ohio Light Artillery, Battery A will provide a cannon firing demonstration and discussion of leisure activities Civil War soldiers would have used to pass the time in camp.
Additionally, Tracy Martin, baseball historian and member of the Muffins, will exhibit a portion of his massive collection of baseball equipment and ephemera. Martin’s collection highlights the evolution of the game and has been featured at theCincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum, The Smithsonian National Museum of American History and The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Using vintage base ball equipment, the game is scheduled for seven innings and will be governed under The Rules and Regulations of the Game of Base Ball Adopted by the National Association of Base-Ball Players, March 14, 1860. Major rule differences between vintage base ball and modern baseball are listed below.

• The ball is pitched underhanded from anywhere behind the pitcher's line.

An out is declared if:

• A hit ball is caught on the fly or the first bound, including foul tips to the catcher.


• A base runner overruns any base (including first) and is touched by the ball in the hands of an adversary.

Enjoy an evening downtown, as you watch the Ohio General Assembly Capitol Cannons host the Ohio Village Muffins in an exhibition vintage base ball game. Come early and enjoy a ball park dinner. Concessions will be provided by the Paddy Wagon food truck.

About the Ohio Village Muffins and vintage base ball
Formed in 1981, the Ohio Village Muffins were the first vintage base ball team in America to play a set summer schedule, and the Muffins also hosted the founding meeting of the Vintage Base Ball Association (VBBA). The Muffins play in uniforms period correct to the 1860s; the uniform consists of plain long pants, a white shirt with a bright shield containing the team emblem, a pill box hat, a leather belt and a bow tie. Recreational activities, especially base ball, were becoming more ingrained in American society during the middle part of the 19th century. The Muffins represent a changing America and highlight a game that would transcend all others and become America’s National Pastime.

The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) and the Capitol Square Foundation (CSF) unveiled the portraits of seven former speakers of the Ohio House of Representatives this morning in a ceremony held in the Rotunda of the Ohio Statehouse.

The event brought 50 years of legislative leadership together on Capitol Square and was standing room only. The program culminated with the unveiling of all seven portraits simultaneously. “The seven portraits broaden the scope and artistic diversity of the Ohio Statehouse’s art collection instantly. These works of art will inspire and educate future leaders of Ohio for generations to come,” said CSRAB Executive Director, Laura Battocletti. The portraits unveiled are as follows:

Flags at the Ohio Statehouse will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset Saturday, May 20, 2017 in honor of the life and service of Police Chief Steven Eric DiSario.

Governor Kasich’s order reads:
“In honor of the life and service of Police Chief Steven Eric DiSario, I hereby proclaim, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Ohio by the Ohio Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Franklin and Licking Counties from sunrise to sunset on May 20, 2017.”

The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) and the Capitol Square Foundation (CSF) will unveil the portraits of seven former speakers of the Ohio House of Representatives Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Rotunda of the Ohio Statehouse.

Leslie Adams, Ned Bittinger and Daniel E. Greene, three of America’s foremost portrait artists, will add their work to the Ohio Statehouse’s art collection during the event. “The seven portraits add to the cultural and political history that is on display throughout the Ohio Statehouse. These works of art help tell the story Ohio,” said CSRAB Executive Director, Laura Battocletti. The portraits to be unveiled are as follows:
