Flags at the Ohio Statehouse will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset Monday, August 15, 2016 in honor of the life and service of former Congressman Steve LaTourette.
Governor Kasich’s order reads:

“In honor of the life and service of former Congressman Steve LaTourette, I hereby proclaim, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Ohio by the Ohio Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Geauga, Lake and Cuyahoga Counties and at the Ohio Statehouse from sunrise to sunset on August 15, 2016."

Flags at the Ohio Statehouse will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset Saturday, August 13, 2016 in honor of the life and service of Summit County Executive Russ Pry.
Governor Kasich’s order reads:

“In honor of the life and service, I hereby proclaim, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Ohio by the Ohio Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Summit County and at the Ohio Statehouse from sunrise to sunset on August 13, 2016.”

The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) and the Capitol Square Foundation (CSF) announced that 75 school transportation grants will be awarded to visit the Ohio Statehouse and its museum during the 2016-2017 academic year. The online application process will open Monday, September 12, 2016 at 9 a.m. The grants will be made available to help schools defray bus transportation costs to the Ohio Statehouse. Each grant will be based on one-way mileage from the visiting school to Columbus.

The program was created in 2009 by the Capitol Square Foundation. Since the program’s inception, more than 70,000 students from all 88 Ohio counties have visited the Ohio Statehouse with the help of this grant program. “The foundation is grateful for the continued support from Honda of America," said Charles Moses, Capitol Square Foundation Chairman. “We are thrilled that so many students can visit the Ohio Statehouse through this program!"

25 grants will be awarded in each of three mileage categories. The mileage categories are for a one-way trip from the visiting school to the Ohio Statehouse.

The three mileage categories include:

• 1 to 50 miles, $200.00


• 51 to 100 miles, $300.00


• 101+ miles, $400.00

Each category will be closed once the 25 available grants have been awarded. All grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

"The transportation grant program provides thousands of Ohio school children with a learning experience here at the Ohio Statehouse," said Laura P. Clemens, CSRAB executive director. “This is the place to learn about the legislative process.” The school transportation grants will be available to any Ohio school that receives state funding. The grants are limited to Ohio students in the fourth through 12th grades during the 2016-2017 academic year. Only one transportation grant will be awarded to each school regardless of the number of buses or students visiting the Ohio Statehouse. A field trip to the Ohio Statehouse can be combined with visits to other educational attractions in downtown Columbus, including the Ohio Art Council’s Riffe Gallery, Columbus Museum of Art, COSI and the Ohio Judicial Center.

Only online applications will be accepted. All applications must be submitted by an authorized teacher or school administrator. Applications will be accepted until every grant is awarded.

Governor Kasich’s order reads:

“In accordance with orders issued today by the President of the United States of America and as a mark of respect for the victims of the attack on police officers perpetrated on Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I hereby proclaim, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Ohio by the Ohio Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Ohio effective immediately until sunset, July 22, 2016.”

Flags at the Ohio Statehouse will fly at half-staff from Friday, July 15 until sunset Tuesday, July 19, in accordance with orders issued today by the President of the United States of America and as a mark of respect for the victims of the attack perpetrated on July 14, 2016, in Nice, France.

Governor Kasich’s order reads:

Governor Kasich’s order reads:

"In accordance with orders issued today by the President of the United States of America and to honor the lives and service of the police officers killed in the line of duty on Thursday, July 7, 2016, in Dallas, Texas, I hereby proclaim, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Ohio by the Ohio Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Ohio effective immediately until sunset, July 12, 2016."

In recognition of the United States presidential election of 2016, the Ohio Statehouse Museum Education Center, in partnership with the American Political Items Collectors, will showcase treasures from the political careers of Ohio’s eight presidents and their campaigns.

While the campaign button is the most recognized and widely collected of all campaign objects, the exhibit also includes rare vintage political ribbons, ferrotypes, glassware, autographs, books, textiles, ephemera, posters, medals, tokens, postcards, pennants, sheet music and photography. Campaign artifacts range from matchbooks to street banners and everything in between!

“Ohio has long played an import role in presidential politics. Every four years presidential campaigns crisscross the Buckeye State and thrust Ohio into the national spotlight. This is an opportunity to see the campaigns materials that made Ohio the ‘Mother of Presidents,’” said Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board Executive Director Laura P. Clemens. The exhibit is located in the south hallway (State Street entrance) of the Ohio Statehouse and will be on display through September 30, 2016.

Ohio’s Presidents include: William Henry Harrison (1841), Ulysses S. Grant (1869-1877), Rutherford B. Hayes (1877-1881), James A. Garfield (1881), Benjamin Harrison (1889-1893), William McKinley (1897-1901), William Howard Taft (1909-1913) and Warren G. Harding (1921-1923).
