A new Ohio Constitution exhibit was unveiled at the Ohio Statehouse, Nov. 28, 2018. The display includes authentic pages of the 1802 and 1851 state constitutions. All three branches of government were represented with special speeches during the ceremony. Former governors, Senate presidents, House speakers and other dignitaries were in attendance.
Attendees were invited to sign a document with the preamble. The document was on the historic, Ohio Constitution Table which saw use during the Ohio Constitutional Convention of 1802. On Nov. 29, 1802, the delegates used this table to sign the first Ohio Constitution. The table is part of the collections of the Ross County Historical Society.
The Ohio Eagle Weathervane was on view. It was atop the cupola of the first Ohio Statehouse in Chillicothe, Ohio, c.1801-1852. It is shown courtesy of the Chillicothe and Ross County Public Library.
