Flags at the Ohio Statehouse will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset Sunday, July 17, 2016 in honor of the life and service of former State Representative and Wayne County Commissioner Jim Carmichael.
Governor Kasich’s order reads:

“In honor of the life and service of former State Representative and Wayne County Commissioner Jim Carmichael, I hereby proclaim, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Ohio by the Ohio Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Wayne County and at the Ohio Statehouse from sunrise to sunset on July 17, 2016

Flags at the Ohio Statehouse will fly at half-staff from Friday, July 15 until sunset Tuesday, July 19, in accordance with orders issued today by the President of the United States of America and as a mark of respect for the victims of the attack perpetrated on July 14, 2016, in Nice, France.

Governor Kasich’s order reads:
"In accordance with orders issued today by the President of the United States of America and as a mark of respect for the victims of the attack perpetrated on July 14, 2016, in Nice, France, I hereby proclaim, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Ohio by the Ohio Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Ohio effective immediately until sunset, July 19, 2016.”

Flags at the Ohio Statehouse will fly at half-staff from Friday, July 8 until sunset Sunday, July 12, 2016 in honor of the lives and service of the police officers killed in the line of duty Thursday, July 7, 2016 in Dallas, Texas.

Governor Kasich’s order reads:

"In accordance with orders issued today by the President of the United States of America and to honor the lives and service of the police officers killed in the line of duty on Thursday, July 7, 2016, in Dallas, Texas, I hereby proclaim, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Ohio by the Ohio Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Ohio effective immediately until sunset, July 12, 2016."

In recognition of the United States presidential election of 2016, the Ohio Statehouse Museum Education Center, in partnership with the American Political Items Collectors, will showcase treasures from the political careers of Ohio’s eight presidents and their campaigns.

While the campaign button is the most recognized and widely collected of all campaign objects, the exhibit also includes rare vintage political ribbons, ferrotypes, glassware, autographs, books, textiles, ephemera, posters, medals, tokens, postcards, pennants, sheet music and photography. Campaign artifacts range from matchbooks to street banners and everything in between!

“Ohio has long played an import role in presidential politics. Every four years presidential campaigns crisscross the Buckeye State and thrust Ohio into the national spotlight. This is an opportunity to see the campaigns materials that made Ohio the ‘Mother of Presidents,’” said Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board Executive Director Laura P. Clemens. The exhibit is located in the south hallway (State Street entrance) of the Ohio Statehouse and will be on display through September 30, 2016.

Ohio’s Presidents include: William Henry Harrison (1841), Ulysses S. Grant (1869-1877), Rutherford B. Hayes (1877-1881), James A. Garfield (1881), Benjamin Harrison (1889-1893), William McKinley (1897-1901), William Howard Taft (1909-1913) and Warren G. Harding (1921-1923).

The American Political Items Collectors (APIC) is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting the collection, preservation and study of materials relating to political campaigns and the U.S. presidency. Founded in 1945, the APIC serves a growing hobby. Membership includes collectors and enthusiasts from all walks of life and nearly every occupation. The APIC cooperates with the Smithsonian, presidential libraries, homes, birthplaces and museums, national and local media as well as colleges and universities to facilitate the understanding of American politics using the artifacts of political campaigns. Flags at the Ohio Statehouse will fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset June 24, 2016 in honor of the life and service of former State Representative Bill Hartnett.

Governor Kasich’s order reads:
" In honor of the life and service of former director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services and former State Representative Bill Hartnett, I hereby proclaim, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Ohio by the Ohio Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Richland County and at the Ohio Statehouse from sunrise to sunset on June 24, 2016."

Members of the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) will meet Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Ohio Statehouse in downtown Columbus, OH. The business meeting will be held in the State Room (room #108) and will begin at 10 a.m. The meeting is open to the public. The meeting agenda is available upon request.
