Biography

Rep. Tims is a proud member of the Greater Dayton community, serves on the board of the African American Community Fund, and promotes her alma mater, Dunbar High School.

Rep. Tims also serves as president & CEO of Innovation Ohio and Innovation Ohio Education Fund. As CEO, Rep. Tims has led the organization’s vision to fight for a more just and equitable society through strategic engagement, building coalitions, and transformational leadership. For more than a decade, Rep. Tims has served as a trusted advisor to national leaders and is on the frontlines for emerging issues. She has made appearances on MSNBC, Black News Channel, Fox News, and Sirius XM, to name a few.

In 2008, Rep. Tims joined the Obama-Biden presidential campaign as a volunteer in southwest Ohio. Later, that experience would land her in The White House during President Barack Obama’s first presidential term. Following her time at The White House, Desiree began working on Capitol Hill for United States senators Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York). Desiree has spent her life working on public policy issues that impact Americans, which have ranged from agriculture to democracy reform.

Rep. Tims earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts from Xavier University, a diploma from Women’s Campaign School at Yale University, and a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown Law. She is currently lecturing at The Ohio State University.

As a legislator, Rep. Tims top priorities include addressing the housing and transportation needs of District 38. With a growing housing crisis in Dayton, she is focused on increasing the availability of affordable housing, ensuring all families can access quality homes without facing financial strain. Transportation will also be a priority, as she works to expand infrastructure and improve transit options for residents, particularly in underserved areas. Furthermore, Rep. Tims is focused on ensuring that education funding is properly allocated. She is committed to ensuring that the students of her district, including those attending institutions such as Sinclair College and Central State University, have access to affordable, high-quality higher education opportunities that will help them thrive in a modern economy. Additionally, Rep. Tims is committed to defending civil rights, including restoring voting rights to all Ohioans through automatic voter registration and civil engagement programs, stabilizing the economy, lowering rising costs, and safeguarding Medicaid programs.
