Betty Sutton served for eight years in the Ohio House of Representatives. Prior to her service as a state representative, Sutton served on the Barberton City Council and the Summit County Council. She made her move to the Ohio House with the attitude that changes and ideas are often formed at higher levels of office.
Sutton left the legislature in 1999 after completing four consecutive terms. In 2006, she completed a successful bid to the 13th Congressional District and became the United States Representative for the Summit County area. Sutton completed her Bachelors of Arts Degree at Kent State University in 1985, and her Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law in 1990. In 1989, she was honored by the Federal Bar Association for Outstanding Performance in Constitutional law.
