COUNTY FLAGS

Muskingum

The Muskingum County Flag was designed by the residents of the Muskingum County Home in 2002. They incorporated significant areas of economic development into their design. The artwork was created by Roger Penos of Zanesville. Appearing clockwise from the upper left corner, agriculture, the pottery industry, and the coal mining industry are depicted as being important to Muskingum County's economy. The Wilds nature preserve, Lorena Sternwheeler and The Y-Bridge are noteworthy tourist attractions. In the lower left corner, the Underground Railroad represents an important time in the county's history. The county was established on March 1, 1804. Muskingum is an old Delaware Indian word meaning "A town by the river."
