The Repose of Lincoln at the Ohio Statehouse commemorates the day that Lincoln's body lay in repose in Columbus, Ohio on April 29, 1865. Reverend Timothy Ahrens of the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, delivered several poems by Reverend Washington Gladden and spoke about his predecessor, Reverend Edward Goodwin, the 13th pastor of that church. On April 29, 1865, Goodwin spoke at the Ohio Statehouse to the crowd who had come to honor the fallen president. During the Civil War, Goodwin ministered to Union soldiers and also to Confederate prisoners in Columbus. In the 1860s, the First Congregational Church building was on Broad Street across from the Ohio Statehouse.
