William Howard Taft was born on September 15, 1857 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Yale in 1878 and from Cincinnati Law School in 1880. He climbed the Ohio political scale and was appointed an Ohio Supreme Court Judge in 1887. After serving as a U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, Governor-General of the Philippines, and Secretary of War under Roosevelt, he was elected President. He was the 27th President of the United States, the seventh from Ohio. After his presidency, Taft was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court by Harding. Taft died on March 8, 1930 in Washington, D.C. President William Howard Taft was made a Great Ohioan in 2011.
