Judith Resnik, born in Akron, Ohio, was an astronaut, pilot and engineer. She was part of the first NASA astronaut group to include women. Resnik was the first Jewish woman in space. She flew on Space Shuttle Discovery, and was a crewmember on the Space Shuttle Challenger when it exploded in 1986. Judith Resnik was named a Great Ohioan in 2023.
She was the 16th woman in U.S. history to have a perfect SAT score. Resnik graduated from Harvey S. Firestone High School as valedictorian and runner-up homecoming queen. She earned a doctorate of Electrical Engineering, and worked as a biomedical engineer and missle scientist. She was also a classical pianist and an airplane pilot.
