The Eyes of Freedom: The Lima Company Memorial paintings return to the Ohio Statehouse. This year is the 25th anniversary of the incident in Iraq.
It all started with an artist’s dream. Anita Miller had a vision of full-size portraits in the circle of the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda. She painted the 22 fallen Marines and their Navy Corpsman from the Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, who lost their lives while serving in Iraq in 2005. Her dream was fulfilled when the exhibit was unveiled in the Rotunda, May 23, 2008.
The exhibition includes a life-size bronze sculpture called “Silent Battle,” sculpted by Anita Miller. It now travels the nation bringing awareness to the veteran suicide epidemic and other issues relating to post traumatic stress. Silent Battle offers support for those navigating life after combat, suffering the hidden wounds of war.
The moving memorial traveled across the country, "honoring ALL who answered our nation’s call, then, now and tomorrow." The Eyes of Freedom exhibit returns to the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda, March 10 through March 26, 2025. For more information please visit www.limacompanymemorial.org.
The Ohio Statehouse is open to the public, weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
