The Ohio Statehouse cannon will be fired to start the Veterans Parade in downtown Columbus.
Grande Winter Ball, Ohio Statehouse
You are invited to the Grande Winter Ball at the Ohio Statehouse, to be held in the Atrium on January 25, 2020 from 7 to 9 pm.
Learn the Reel and other Civil War period dances, and enjoy light refreshments. All are welcome to join in the festivities. Historical dress is encouraged. One hour of dance practice will be held at 3 o’clock for all who are interested. This educational event is sponsored by the 1st Ohio Light Artillery, Battery A, the Statehouse Civil War re-enactors.
For entry, a tax deductible donation of $10 per person will be appreciated. This year, RSVPs for the Grande Winter Ball and donations are to be submitted online. RSVP for Grande Winter Ball

Convenient parking at reasonable rates is available in the Statehouse Underground Parking Garage.
Civil War Encampment and Repose of Lincoln
at the Ohio Statehouse

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Civil War Encampment, West Plaza with cannon firings
10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Repose of Lincoln honor guard, Rotunda
In commemoration of the 1865 repose of President Abraham Lincoln in the Ohio Capitol, Civil War re-enactors will provide an honor guard in the Rotunda from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. This will take place on the site where the slain President lay in state in the Ohio Statehouse on April 29, 1865.
On the front lawn of the Ohio Statehouse, learn about life during the Civil War. Walk among soldiers’ tents, see how to fire the cannon every hour and help the Ladies Aid Society deliver comfort to the troops. Historical re-enactors from 1st Ohio Light Artillery, Battery A and other groups will demonstrate Civil War life, cooking and medical practices, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Vintage Base Ball Game

The Capitol Cannons challenge the Ohio Village Muffins in an exhibition game of vintage “base ball.” The event is free and open to the public. Take a step back to the 1800’s with an exhibition game as the Ohio Village Historical Muffins battle members of the Ohio General Assembly on the west lawn of Capitol Square.
