Governor Davey was a Democrat from Kent, Ohio and served two terms from 1935 through 1939. He was born in 1884 and died in 1946. Among his accomplishments, he was one of the early sponsors of network radio programs. Each weekend during the late 1920s he would travel to New York City from his Washington, DC office or his home in Kent to supervise a Sunday afternoon music program under the auspices of the Davey Tree Expert Company. He was the founder and president of that company. During this time he was serving in Congress and the radio appearance served the dual duty of a political/campaign appearance and a commercial message.
