Capitol Square was restored from 1989-1996. In 1994, the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda work involved moving the giant art works to a safe structure. Large paintings, The Signing of the Treaty of Green Ville by Howard Chandler Christy, and Perry's Victory by William Henry Powell, were protected inside a building in the Rotunda. The restoration brought the Ohio Statehouse back to the original colors and design, while making Capitol Square usable for state government.
